With my painting at the opening of the Royal Hibernian Academy exhibition last year (2016).
Profile
I have been painting for more than ten years now. Although I graduated from the National College of Art & Design in Dublin over 35 years ago, I did very little painting there. However, I did learn something about conceptual art, As a result, I worked for over a decade as a performance artist for which I have an extensive list of credits. This work concerned my experience of disability and the politics of identity. In my early 30s I needed a few proper jobs (in order to secure a mortgage), including working in arts administration, creating and managing a certified course on disability and equality training, freelance journalism, and then I spent a decade as a radio journalist. In my mid-40s I turned full circle and returned to my first love, painting.
