detail of Old Harbour, Greystones
I am happy to work with you to create something special.
I work if possible from life and produce the painting over a number of sessions. It usually takes from 3 to 6 weeks to create a picture depending upon scale and complexity. I paint with cold wax on panel, oils on canvas and occasionally with watercolour. I work hard and try my best to achieve a painting that is what you want. If you like what I do at the end of the process you can buy the painting, and if you don't like it you don't have to buy it and we have had an interesting journey together. This is how I work.
For practical reasons, I will ask you to determine your budget in advance and I like to work with one with person rather than a couple or a committee... Even though before we start, I know that whether they know it not, the person who is commissioning the painting has an image in their mind of how the painting is going to look. And I try my very best listen to what the commissioner wants, and when I reach the end, perhaps after a few false starts, I say I am finished.
Each commission is an exciting joint venture. It is nice to work with someone else to create something beautiful. If, in the end, you do not like what I have done, there is no obligation to buy and neither is there an obligation on me to keep painting until you do like it...
Here is what two satisfied collaborators say:
Portrait of Ava
"I'm sitting in the library completing some work for school & have spent the last 1/2 hour admiring & being tremendously grateful for your two amazing paintings of Ava. I'm so glad that by virtue of these, our fond memories of your visit, your presence & friendship surrounds us.... "
The Boarding School
"I have just got back home having delivered your painting. My friend loved it, really loved the painting and the significance of it. Interesting his wife loved it too, admitted no emotional tie but loved the work. So thank you again!!"
and I will call you to talk through your needs.
